Graduate Student Grants
TLTC offers two semester-long grants per year to qualified Liberal Arts graduate students interested in foreign language instructional technology (one student per semester: Fall 2008 and Spring 2009).
Grants are equivalent to TAships/AIships ($7,000 to $8,000).
Proposals are reviewed by the TLTC Advisory Committee.
Grants for 2008-2009 are now being accepted.
Please send all 3 documents (application form, current CV and letter from supervising professor) to Dr. Carl Blyth, cblyth@mail.utexas.edu, by Wednesday, April 30th, 2008.
Grant recipients will be announced by Monday, May 12th, 2008.
Current Recipients
The Fall 2007 recipient is Kelle Keating, and Spring 2008 recipient is Cory Lyle.
Both recipients are from UT's Department of French and Italian.

Grant Specifics
Eligibility, purpose, criteria, application process, and sample projects:

Eligibility
Applicants must be currently enrolled Liberal Arts graduate students.
Teaching experience preferred.
Grant proposals should be undertaken in collaboration with a faculty member from a foreign language department, typically a course supervisor or language coordinator.

Purpose
TLTC's mission is to improve the teaching of foreign languages at UT-Austin by developing and implementing new technologies.
The purpose of the grant program is to draw more graduate students into the community of foreign language scholars and technologists and to further the development of foreign language technology at UT-Austin.

Project Criteria
Proposals must be directly related to a foreign language taught at UT-Austin.
Projects will be judged based on the following criteria:
- Impact on learning and teaching
- Pedagogical and technological innovation
- Feasibility
Projects should be well-defined, with clearly stated goals that can be accomplished in a single semester; however, projects may be part of a larger, ongoing faculty project (e.g. LAITS or TLTC project).
Grantees will have access to LAITS development lab equipment.
Grantees will be required to meet with TLTC staff regularly and to attend TLTC activities (lectures and events).
In addition, all grantees will be expected to present projects during a TLTC sponsored forum and to make their project results available online.

Sample Projects
Following is a list of possible project proposals.
The list is not intended to be comprehensive:
- Development of writing activities based on selected websites
- Production of pedagogical videos (e.g., listening comprehension, grammar, phonetics, cultural)
- Integration of blogs, podcasts, and/or social software into course curriculum
- Development of pedagogical materials based on music videos
